Have you previously experienced vertigo or know someone that has? Has your doctor ever told you that you have “crystals in your ear”? Do you get dizzy when turning over in bed or turning your head when driving? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, you may be experiencing what’s called Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, or BPPV. Our physical therapists here at Absolute Treatment know how to screen for this problem and likely fix it in 1-2 visits on average.

What is BPPV?

BPPV impacts our bodies ability to orient ourselves in space. There are small canals filled with fluid in your head, near your ears, that tell your brain if you are looking left or right and which direction you may be moving. This is the same concept if you had your eyes closed while sitting in a car and the driver hit the gas. The feeling that told you that you started moving is due to these canals. BPPV is a problem that occurs when this system is not working properly and needs to be reset.

How Do We Fix It?

Our skilled physical therapists at Absolute Treatment have been trained to evaluate and determine which side your issue is on and how to fix it. If it is determined that you indeed have BPPV, we will take you through a series of movements on a table that will reset these canals back to their baseline, thus eliminating your dizziness and giving you back your freedom from this terrible dizzy feeling.
